So after messing around with my new 4670k I got it oc'd to 4.6Ghz with my Thermaltake Nic C4 (air) so I'm wondering if this is good or not... I have a picture but I'm on my phone so it's a pain in the a** just to get on the site. My temps got up to 90c in prime95 but I know haswell runs very hot and it really doesn't scare me especially since this will not be the temp while playing games.

nononononono. that is bad. 90 degrees celsius is not a safe temp for prime95. Fahrenheit, sure, crazy impressive as long as the room's ambient temperature isn't lower than that. if you're hitting 90 degees celsius in prime95, then i reckon you'd be hitting 70 or so average in something like gaming. as per popular practice, anything above 70-75 degrees celsius risks shortening your CPU's lifespan, and that should be your max when running Prime95. just because it's known to run hot doesn't mean you should overlook it when it does.

TJ Max on the cpu is 100c and of course it's going to shorten the lifespan but it will still outlive most of my parts anyway! Also I hit 99c a couple minutes ago no blue screen and as long as I don't go over 100c I should be fine. Also there is almost no scenario where I'm stressing the cpu like prime95...

Really ? Because at stock speeds with the stock cooler others are saying they see 90c why would Intel send make a chip that went way over 65c with the stock cooler ?

if anyone is seeing 90C at stock settings/heatsink, something probably went wrong during the mounting process of the heatsink or used too much (too little) thermal paste.

if nothing seems to be wrong, it's time to contact the retailer you purchased it from or Intel themselves for an RMA.
