I can create the partition, set up the disk utility on a USB, and initiate the install, but once the install is finished, all I get is a black screen with a white underscore in the top left hand corner. I've tried re-running the install process but it won't work. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.2 on a MacBook Pro (mid 2013) with an Intel i5 CPU.

are you using Boot Camp?

Check out this link... Seems like same problem. Some people have had an issue with their specific type of Hard drive model. And It could be the copy of your Windows 7... Have you used this install disc elsewhere?

not this specific disk, but I've partitioned my hard drive and installed windows before, so it should work with my hard drive.

If you can, try to recreate this process with this disk and the usb on a diff system... See if same error occurs.
