Finally ( since U_6.06) contributed to Canonical for the availability & my use of Ubuntu OS. No free-lunch or free beer eh pad'res?

As criteria for amt. contributed I considered nominal the RedHat_6 subscription fee of $60 ... which amt. was years ago, and covered only 6-months of RedHat admined updates. BTW... that OS & support worked flawlessly. But, the fedored b*stards yanked that offer within 3-months and I got a return of roughly 1/2 what I paid them. If memory serves they wanted $200/seat!

Yes, in-the-day running fav WinME I did pay for frequently used shareware ... like ZONE-ALARM, BMAIL(?), & WINZIP, though Lemon would never take a nickle for PROXOMITRON .

Naturally now postmodern ... YMMV.

Unless I'm misunderstanding... it's a poor old IT guy longing for the good ole' days, back around the turn-of-the-century, before Windows XP was released.

Canonical may yet turn a profit :)

Indeed, if all who USE & VALUE Cannonical products PAID for Cannonical products ... and so on down-the-line (stack?) yes, profits would accrue to many currently unpaid packagers, coders and architects of software.

That relationship would be just, amusing, reasonable and sustaining.
