war total rome 2 is a horribly coded game. Because it's so poorly coded it can run poorly even on state of the art intel systems. The key to getting the game to run well is overclocking your cpu. That game is basically a 2 threaded game... meaning more cores or hyperthreading (like with an i7) won't really help you. But a high clock speed on the chip will. So the higher you can overclock that i5 the better off you'll be.

As to how high you can overclock that haswell? That depends on your cpu cooler, and your chip. Every chip is different... there is no telling what type of overclock you might get from it until you try.

Hi,
I was able to run Rome Total War 2 on extreme settings with i7 2600 and GTX 560 and getting 30fps while zoomed in battles. Your setup should do much better.

Yes, you will be able to max out the settings, even without overclocking. You've chosen a good build there.

As others have said though - to get better performance, you should overclock the cpu. My cpu is an i7 3820 that I managed to clock up to 4.65ghz. The performance difference is very noticeable over its stock 3.6. Of course, cooling is a priority and if you're serious about O/C you should take a mosey over to that part of the forum.

A couple of things, when you apply the settings in game remember to select the 'unlimited video memory' box. This will help with the performance. I'd avoid selecting the grass beta, and I'd also avoid selecting the vsync option.

Further, just recently with patch 10 for Rome 2, there is a significant decrease in graphical fidelity. I'm very annoyed because just 2 days before I O/C my Jetstream 670 then cranked up the settings to Extreme. It looked beautiful. Now there seems to be problems with LOD, aa and textures.

I hope they fix it soon.
