Hello All, a bit of a novices question im sure but i've recently decided to upgrade my system. Put Window 7 64 bit OS, replacing that god awful Vista, and now want to max out my motherboards RAM limit to 8GB

My system is;

Intel® Core 2 Quad Processor Q9450 (2.66GHz, 1333MHz, 12MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1
4096MB 1333 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [4x1024]
1.2 TB (2x 640 GB) Serial ATA (7200 Rpm) Dual HDD Config Raid 0 Stripe
Graphics 1GB ATI Radeon 3870 X2 graphics card
16X DVD+/-RW (Read/Write DVD, CD)

I wanted to get 2x4GB sticks to replace the 4x1GB sticks and have been looking at;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004DDI0IE

Can anyone recommend these or is there a better alternative? I'm not too keen to spend much more than about £50-£60, as this OS/RAM upgrade is a stop gap between squeezing the last out of an old machine and the inevitable new build. I just want to be able to open Photoshop and it not stagger and stutter along...

Yes you would be maxing potential with 2 x 4gbs of 1333 which your mobo supports. If you were to mix current ram with anything you add new, your mobo would default to existing ram speed of 1067mhz

run there memory adviser it free it read your system info and tell you the max ram for the mb and give you a few part numbers for there ram that will work in your system. one thing i try and do is look at the ram guild for the motherboard vendor and try and pick up sticks that are on the guild for older pc.

Thanks guys. The mobo is 0G254H, it supports 8gb RAM. GEE BEE - My understanding is that it can have up to 8GB in whatever way i decide to put it in right? Currently it have 4 GB in 1 GB sticks, but im planning to put 2 x 4GB sticks in? Are you suggesting this not suitable, and I should go for 4 x 2GB sticks? It adds up to the same RAM, so I didn't think it made any difference. I would rather purchase 2 x 4GB as it allows for further expansion down the line? Or am i going about this all wrong?

The crucial adviser is good, and i used it to get the spec of the RAM in the original post. As for the RAM guild, how would i go about this? Its an old DELL PC, so are you suggesting certain RAM will not be compatible?

Advance thanks for your help....

The CRUCIAL scan kicks back this;

DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 (non-ECC)

CPU-Z has said Max Bandwidth per slot being 667Mhz which is 1333mhz in DDR terms, right?

When you say im limited to 1333 mhz support, what does that actually mean?

Oh, ok, thanks, but if i put in new, 1333mhz RAM i would be maxing my potential? What your saying is there would be no point buying the faster RAM, due to the bottleneck on my Mobo right?

Pretty much. There is no point, sticking with 1333MHz RAM should be great enough!
