Hi friends,
I need your help. Its very urgent. Hope that you people can help me. I had connected my 500 GB WD External Hard Disk to the Set Top Box (STB)and after connecting, it asked to format the Drive. I didnt format. I just switched off STB and restarted. After that my Hard Disk is not detecting in Ubuntu and even in Windows. I had important data in drive.

Now please tell me can we recover the whole data from my Hard Disk. If yes how.
Please help me. Data is really very very important.

@kirtics34, what do you mean by "not detecting"?

Can you still see a USB mass storage device in Device Manager?

Do CrystalDiskInfo or HD Sentinel see the drive?

Can you see sector 0 with a disc editor (eg DMDE freeware)?

Hi fzabkar,
Thanks for your reply.
1. Can you still see a USB mass storage device in Device Manager?
>> I tried in Ubuntu. I was unable to see the drive being mounted. But when I connect another Hard disk I was able to see it. When I tried it in Windows, even there I was unable to see the drive. But I could see, below options like "Click here to safely remove the Disk".

2. Do CrystalDiskInfo or HD Sentinel see the drive?
>> I have not tried.

3. Can you see sector 0 with a disc editor (eg DMDE freeware)?
>> I have never tried this. Let me know how to proceed on this.

Regards

The reason I asked if HD Sentinal can see the drive is because the externla drive consists of two components -- a USB-SATA bridge board or IC plus the HDD itself. Device Manager will report the bridge IC, but HD Sentinel will try to communicate with the HDD behind the bridge.
