Hello Everyone,
who knows if the Western Digital WD10EARS and WD20EARS (Caviar Green Series) are using the same components. Specifically I would like to know if the actuator arms and drive heads are identical since I need to replace them in my HD (WD20EARS) and I have found a WD10EARS on sale.
Thanks in advance!

...and this is the WD answer:

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Support. Please excuse the late response.
Unfortunately I am not able to provide you with this kind of detailed specification for these drives.
I do not have the information, if the parts used in this drives are the same or not.
Please reply to this e-mail, and we will be happy to assist you further.

...so i guess this post will remain unsolved.

That's because hardware for drives isn't always the same, even for the same model #s. This is especially common in consumer grade drives like the Greens. Most of the general public doesn't ask questions, so as "improvements" and changes occur, the hardware may change over the year a particular model is produced.

If you want more consistency, you'll have to pay for it in the form of Enterprise level drives, unfortunately.
