I can choose to upgrade to an 8320 or a 4440 but with the 4440 i will need a new mobo cos i got am3+ mobo right now. i do gaming and recording and vid editing. i hear that future games will need to use more cores?

Solution
By need to use more cores, they mean they will start more actively requiring the 4 cores that all computers have now basically.
What's your budget?
Intel's generally use less power than AMDs, and entry level Intels perform as well as mid-high range AMDs.
Intel's also have better performance per core, so even though they have less cores than an AMD, the cores work better.
For video recording and editing, I would recommend Intel, unless your budget doesn't allow it.

But im using a 6300 right now, will i need a new os with the motherboard?

Well, if you get a new motherboard you WILL have to reinstall windows from scratch, as lots of the things windows does during the install are based on the current motherboard you have. If you already have a copy of windows you can just use it and it's associated serial number again.

The thing is, an 8-core processor now is still in the early adopter stage, by the time an 8-core processor is "recommended" the 8320 will be pretty trashy.

What is your current motherboard and GPU? What video editing software do you use ??

The FX-8xxx series works just dandy in 3-D modeling and video editing/rendering. Blindly recommending an Intel CPU that would require not only a new motherboard but likely an OS is LOL-crazy.

Unless you are having slowdowns, I wouldn't bother making any upgrade at the moment. The 6300 isn't a bad chip, the 8320 won't make a great enough leap up from it, if any in many applications, and the intel option isn't a massive upgrade when you factor in the cost/time involved.

If I were you, I would wait until Intel/AMD release some new gear and see what bargains you can grab then, unless you have money that just needs to be spent.

Yeah, rather than upgrading piecemeal, I'd recommend waiting around until you can just afford an entirely new system.

I don't think that we will wait for a long time for games becoming multithreaded, Microsoft has announced directx 12 and the said that it will rely on multithreaded performance (directx 11 was using one core according to the benchmarks that Microsoft made) and ubisoft recommend an 8 core processor for their soon to be released game watch dogs. So the fx 8320 would be a good upgrade.
