My Corsair HX850w has been quite quiet the 1 and 1/2 months that I've owned it. Its fan only starts up when I put the PC under load, and it has never once shut off on me.

I'm starting to hear these random "click" noises, almost like the snap of static electricity or the clicking of a light switch. It makes ONE SINGLE CLICK NOISE, and then stays quiet.... This happens SOMETIMES when I start or stop a program, AKA putting the psu under load or relieving its load, or when I start or shutdown my computer. It doesn't behave like this everytime, its almost completely random.

The oddest thing is that I sometimes hear this when my PC is off too, sometimes 2-4 times an hour... I can't don't think its coming from the speakers, it sounds like a more metallic clicking noise, not a static "pop" of a speaker being charged.

I'm about 90% sure its the PSU, and don't know what to think of it. MOBO capacitors are not leaking or popped, and it doesn't sound like a hard drive click especially since it happens even with the PC off...) If its not causing any harm, I don not want to RMA it. I repeat DO NOT WANT to RMA. It functions perfectly fine in every other sense (sometimes the fan whines, that's it), and don't want to risk getting a WORSE psu through RMA.

Is this common in this PSU? What could it be? Most importantly, is it bad. I want to do anything that I can so I DO NOT have to RMA this psu.

I've never had any trouble with the way it functions, and the fan has been a bit louder lately. If it gets considerably worse, I think I'll look into it.

Talked to a friend with a Corsair CX600 who said his made little crackle and pop noises inside his case when he scrolled his mouse 0_o maybe its a common issue, I don't know, but My Corsair has never failed me once. Never rebooted itself, never shutoff by itself, never lost power, its been perfect.
I think I'll just keep an eye on it???

Yes but if it isn't hurting anything, I don't want to replace it. I've heard lots of PSU's over 750w can have noisy fans and make odd noises. I know lots of this model make the click on and off, but It makes me wonder why it does it so randomly for me? I haven't seen any sparks or noticed any burned carpet, and my dust filter is clean. Theres nothing rattling in my PSU, and it have vibration pads on it...

Should I just keep an eye on it and take action if another symptom of a bad PSU pops up? It doesn't seem normal, but it isn't creating any alarm or seem to affect anything on my PC at all.

This all also really started to show (at least when I started noticing it) around the time I updated my AMD GPU drivers to 14.3 beta. Not saying its the only facotr, but could this driver be making my GPU and PSU behave odd, resulting in the PSU working really really hard or... 290 uses a lot of power, but I have its power usage to stock, and my 8350 in turbo/low power mode) Should nly be pulling 600w max... unless the driver is instructing wrong. I might just try reverting back to 14.2 (I need mantle for BF4, like need it, DX11 runs like crap in BF4 with my 290...)

Does this sound plausible? and how could my PC be making snap noises when the whole PC is off? I'll also try switching main power plug to a different outlet on my power strip, see if that's the cause maybe.

Any other ideas or concerns?
