USB memory stick problem

My USB stick (some people call them 'flash drives') is a little integral 8GB stick.

So I was pretty stupid. I had it plugged in to one of the front ports about half way up my tower.
When I stood up, I stood on the stick. I took it apart, bent it back, and carefully soldered up a couple of broken contacts (Ones that attach the USB plug itself to the circuit board. I carefully looked around, and the solders were good; not touching anything else or anything.
I plug it back in, and a message pops up (I'm using windows 7, have yet to try it on my Ubuntu laptop) something along the lines of: A USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.
Trying it in different win7 computers gives mixed results, as shown below:

  • Same message as my computer shows up.
Red LED on USB stick flashes once, then the same message as my computer shows up.
Message saying 'installing device driver' appears until 'driver installation failed' shows.
Red LED on USB stick flashes once, then a message saying 'installing device driver' appears until 'driver installation failed' shows.
Message saying 'installing device driver' appears until I get the same message as my computer.

Nothing obvious happens, except for the appearance of Unknown Device in device manager.
What should I do?

Edit: I do not want to buy a new one, since there is data on the stick i would rather not lose

Well, since I need it or tommorrow, that would be rather troublesome.
is there anything I should try?
Bear in mind i have both windows 7 and Ubuntu at my disposal
I may lose money if i can't get it; it's something i made and was due to release tomorrow

Tell ya what, first person to give me help, and it works, can get a free copy

Other then open it up to see if you break the internal memory or it might be just another contact broken.

But if you do it wrong you gonna lose all you data.

and you only have it in one place. at least you learn to backup next time.

I was about to copy it over when it happened... but i got up to pee. Curse you tiny bladder!

The memory chip itself is not damaged; the stick bent at the point the plug meets the board. 4 contacts, as far as i can see, were broken (the four for the USB plug), and these were neatly soldered up.

I can't see any other breakages, even with my magnifiying glass. Even if there was, my soldering iron would be way to big to fit - it was a struggle getting the 4 i got.
