I am building a new gaming rig to personally test out APU and R series graphics performances. I am currently running the most current 7850K APU w/ R7 Graphics. I will be pairing it with a R9 270X (4Gb Version). I have set the BIOS to allow 2GB to be used as dedicated memory for the APU R7. Under normal circumstances I know that when running Xfire ram is not stacked and the lesser ram is used between both cards when ran together. If I were to enable Dual Graphics Mode from the BIOS and have both the R7 & R9 running for gaming will the software use the 4GB from the R9 270X or will it use the R7 APU (2GB) dedicated I assigned to it?

Solution
It has nothing to do with generation. R7 is the same as r9 which is the same as the 7000 series. They only enable dual up to a certain gpu model.

I have the R7 APU running right now with an 6850 running in dual graphics mode (wanted to test older gen with APU). Both are enabled and running simultaneously with no issues. Why should I have trouble with the newer gen?

Within the BIOS I can enable Dual Graphics Mode, to run my APU built in R7 together with the R9 270X and run multi-gpu setup. They both appear as connected GPU processors in windows. The xfire setting within the AMD Catalyst will only appear when running 2 graphic cards simulatnously.

Oh that's not enabling dual graphics, that just enables the igpu. Then the option can be enabled in ccc. It's not the crossfire option. It is a separate option called dual graphics. So I suspect you never did run dual with the 6850 since that can't dual either afaik. What do you mean they show as connected?
