When you say downloading, what do you really mean? Like doing slow file transfers? Unzipping? Or literally downloading from the internet?

Internet downloading. Would it cause a conflict if when i am downloading a program and select '' create desktop icon'' since my OS is on the ssd. Do i have to actually create a desktop shortcut from the file once its on the hdd?

Nevermind. that is exactly what the issue was. I redownloaded and unselected the ''create desktop'' and it installed perfectly. Thanks for your help. I am a computer noobie so i am learning as i go. Thanks!

If your internet download is slow that would most likely have alot more to do with your interent connection. Your WD blue should be a 7200 rpm and should be capabile of 800-1200 mbps write speed.

Please tell us exactly what you are trying to do, in what program, from where to where, etc, the more detail the more help we shoud be able to give.

Ok so I still have an issue. I am trying to download a video chat software called camfrog to my HDD instead of my SSD. Earlier the download would freeze and i think its because i had ''creat desktop icon'' checked as this would cause a conflict with my ssd. So I redownloaded and it says click finish to launch. WHen i click finish it doesnt launch but in task manager it is still running in the background. What on earth is going on?

I think that running in the taskbar is just something that the software does, as far as the other thing goes, by "downloading' do you mean "installing" cause there isn't really a "create desktop icon" when you download something.

Why are you wanting to install programs to the HDD instead of the SSD, are you almost out of space on the SSD?

Try stopping the process in task manager and browse to where the executible is on your HDD and open it that way.

Some prorams are coded poorly and its code will have links to C:/...... despite the drive letter it is installed on

I am guessing he doesn't care if his software that isn't intensive is on a slower drive, and didn't want to waste ~$0.60 per GB storage compared to $0.06 per GB storage.

Are you using two SATA 3 (6Gb/s) ports on your motherboard? What are the drive letters of your drives, is the SSD C:\ ?

It's possible that just that program messes up, tell me what happens with the next thing you try to install.

If you are viewing the process in the applications tab of the task manager then right click and select "go to process" then right click that and select "end process tree"

As far as keeping room for games on SSD: I understand trying to conserve room, depedning on the coding of the program it can be difficult or impossible (at least without access to the source code) to run it from a different drive other then the boot drive.

That's what I mean by only being that one, usually most programs run fine on my other drive, but a few I have had to install to C:\ because they are coded badly, so this shouldn't be a very large issue.

Just get back to me when you install the next thing, I have a feeling that it is a program-specific issue.
