I bought this 1tb western digital passport HDD 4 months ago, never had problems with it. Last weekend my friend used it to get some music, when she was done she closed her MacBook. I opened it up in the morning to find a message that said "one of your USB devices has been disconnected because it's drawing too much power." When I went to unplug the USB my fingers got BURNED. Upon closer inspection, the cable itself was melted to the drive! I couldn't believe it...and now I can't get any computer to recognize the device. This probably could have started a fire if I didn't catch it...any chance of WD recovering my data? Any chance of my data being recoverable at all? Really hurting right now after losing all of my photography.

It could just be that the external housing and circuitry of the enclosure got fried. Try putting the drive itself into another enclosure to see if it survived, or attaching it via SATA cable directly to a desktop computer...Good luck!
