I have a slight problem, Windows 8.1 keeps on using 90% of my disk at certain times.

That is what happens for about 2-5 min after I stop doing anything on my computer.
Ill be using my computer to play games, or watch a movie and explorer wont do anything, then ill stop, turn of my monitor and 2 min later explorer will start to read data like crazy. I was able to torrent for 7 hrs and explorer did nothing, but as soon as I closed out of all my windows and left the computer it started to read data again. Is this something that windows does by itself to index files? Or should I disable something in windows to fix this. I use male-ware bytes pro, and my rig is

3 day old WD black (FAEX) HDD
Zotac 780
i7 3770k
8 gb 1600 ram

Thanks.

You could go into Advanced System Settings (Win7: right-click My Computer, Properties, on the left-hand side click Advanced System Settings; Win8: right-click windows icon in taskbar, System, on the left-hand side click Advanced System Settings) then click the Settings button under the Performance section, and then click on Advanced. Under the Virtual memory section, click on Change, click your C: drive and select no paging file, Set, restart and see if you're still getting all the reads/writes you were getting before.

If not then it was your page file and I'd re-enable it for system stability.

If you are still getting those reads/writes then it's probably Windows indexing the contents of your disc which is nothing to worry about.

Please, never, ever, ever, ask someone to do that in widows 8.1. Ever.
I just did and was unable to boot into windows, unable to boot into safe mode, windows boot mgr did pop up and said it was unable to boot and then found the problem and fixed it.
That maybe something that helps in win 7, but not in win 8.1

That being said, explorer still writes data/searches for things (and it does slow down the OS, opening a game took 5 min instead of 10 sec) Ill see if this keeps up after a week, and if so ill look for another solution or try returning the drive.

I'm so sorry man--I've disabled the page file on a number of Win8.1 machines including my own and never had a problem. Weird.

It's probably just Windows indexing your drive since it's new and large.

No problem, no harm done, just wanted to say that it didn't work at all, I have done that on win 7 but win 8.1 did not like it at all for me, it might have been because of Fences (The icon arranging program I use)

Anyway, I disable the win 8.1 scheduled service while Idle and I think that did it for me, I was getting horrible read speeds on HD tune (20 mb/s read max, 15 mb/s min) but now im getting these speeds:
