upgrading graphics card(r7-260) in a old computer (emachines t5234)

hello i have a emachines t5234 with a upgraded 500w power supply and would like to upgrade the graphics card to a r7-260 i just want to know if this will work.

The R7 260 won't work because you need a six pin power connector, though the Nvidia 750 (and 750 ti) will!

(Careful, some 750 ti's don't have a power connector and some do)

I'm assuming that his new 500W PSU comes with one.....if not then that PSU might as well just go into the recycle bin.

OEM PCs nearly always use custom order power supplies that don't give you extra connectors.

I interpreted OP ("i have a emachines t5234 with a upgraded 500w power supply") as he has purchased a new aftermarket PSU, instead of he purchased an upgraded version of that pre-built PC.

AHH, for some reason I thought about it the other way that you mentioned! He just needs to check that he has the connectors first and he could get anything basically.

thank you guys. so a 6 pin power connector is all i need and i can upgrade to pretty much any graphics card? since you guys seem like you know what your talking about. ill take your opinion on the idea of is this even worth doing? would it be better for me just to buy everything thats needed for a new computer and start from scratch?

Depends on what you're trying to achieve and do with the new upgrade and how much budget you will have for a entire new system.

i only run basic games and programs as it is.. but that may be due to the fact, i dont have the ability to play games that demand high level of graphics. i have a $300-$400 budget. like i said i have that 500w psu and the emachines shell if that would conserve some money.
