Hi, I have read many threads about this topic and since many of them are old thread (at least 1 year) I was wondering if I could get an up-to-date answer to this. I am thinking of getting the MSI 970A-G46 with the AMD FX-6300 CPU. On pcpartpicker it said the following incompatibility:
*Some 970 chispset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs*
I read that this can depend on when the board was manufactured because the manufacturer updated the BIOS of all produced motherboards after a certain date.

So does the MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard need a BIOS update to work with an AMD FX-6300?

The AMD Vishera CPU is supported as from BIOS version 1.10 (release date 18/10/2012)

As you haven't bought the board yet, it's very likely the BIOS version will be later than that, but impossible to know for sure until you install it and look at BIOS Setup screen. If BIOS version is older than 1.10, you can get updates here:

But I very much doubt you'll need to update it. It's unlikely a board you haven't bought yet will have a BIOS going way back before 18/10/2012
