potential problems with asrock z77 extreme4 motherboard

Just built my first PC and I turned on the power just to see the processor heat sink start for a sec and then fizzle out. Anyone else have this problem? Think it might be because the case I'm using, an NZXT phantom 410, is a little too big or the mobo's too small. Might be graphics card (an evga 770 I think) but I have no idea. Any thoughts would be helpful and I can provide specs and pics
