I know all the good reasons (the bad is just the Metro and its application i think) for updating my computer from Windows 7 to 8.1 but you know its kinda of a hazel as I have to install many drivers which will not be supported initially. The driving force in my decision to switch to 8.1 will be if its a better performer for video editing.

My system is

AMD FX 6300 six-core
4 GB RAM (I know, I'll upgrade it soon)
AMD Radeon HD 6450
500 GB WD HD
Windows 7 Ultimate 64x Bit

I use Win 8.1 for both video and photo editing without any hiccups or issues. Just ensure that you have a very good video card and lots of memory and preferably an SSD and a backup solution. You don't want to lose all that time!

I have the same question now.
I guess the choice has been Win8.1 ?
I wonder how video editing is now performing on your AMD system.

Are you using a graphic card ? Maybe the latest AMD cpu A10 7850K (socket FM2+) has a built-in GPU which is powerful enough on its own to handle those tasks ?

Thank you

[\answer]
Of course Windows 8.1
I use a low end graphic card. Saphire AMD Radeon 6540, 1 GB.
I could not push my budget anymore but I still decided to buy a dedicated graphic card so that I could take advantage of Adobe Premiere's Mercury Playback Engine feature, which requires at least a GB worth of Graphic card.
It sure does help a lot!
I've never faced a crash or performance lag.
Of course other steps like optimizing (defragmentation) and cleaning of unwanted memory regularly benefits.
If your budget allows. I would strongly suggest.
1.Better graphic card.
2.at least 120 GB SSD
3.RAMss !
