Hello,

So I'm planning to build a gaming rig. This pc will be my first pc build by myself so I have a question.

Because I have no experience of building a pc, should I get a modular psu or a non-modular psu?

Thanks in advance.

That all depends on what you get for your money.
The cable not used are easily tucked away, therefore not potentially disrupting air flow.
Logic suggests you can have a much higher quality non-modular psu than modular because they are cheaper to produce.
However, depends on pricing at time.

What did you have in mind?

Some PSUs come in both Modular and Non Modular configurations (Corsair comes to mind immediately, but there are others). The Non-Modular configurations are generally only marginally more expensive. As far as reliability goes, true, you can spend less on a Non-Modular 80+ Gold, but Reliability and Efficiency isn't so much of a problem either on Modular ones if you purchase a good one.

Gee Bee makes a good point though - Shop for what best fits your price range. If you spend your money elsewhere on the machine, you can save a few bucks and still get a pretty good non-modular power supply and push those extra savings to your other components.

I don't mind my wired unit. But the only way I am able to tolerate it is with a roomy case that supports some clever and crafty cable management. It kind of made it more fun, in a way.

I don't mind modular units, but I prefer they don't have those ugly cheap looking plastic cables. I would at least want the cables sleeved. Seen a few modular PSUs with those and I find them quite tacky, personally. But a modular unit is much easier to maintain inside a build, that's for sure.

Would you guys be kind enough to suggest me some PSUs? :)

After reading your replies, I'm okay with going with any type of PSU, although I still mind the quality of the PSU.

I would spend at most $110 for the PSU.

It would be easier to suggest a PSU in that price range if we knew what kind of parts you wanted to put in your machine, or what your budget for the whole build was altogether. Because it's hard to make a power supply recommendation without knowing what components you want to power :)

Oh sorry. Here are the parts of my rig

CPU: Intel i5-4570
Mobo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
Ram: G. Skill RipjawsX 8gb (2x4gb)
Storage: 1TB WD Blue
Video Card: Asus Gtx770 DCUII OC
Chassis: Cooler Master Scout 2 or Cooler Master Enforcer (depends if the store I'm going to buy my pc parts from has the case)
PSU: ???

And if you guys have noticed, I have a color scheme for my PC (which is red and black), BUT I don't think the PSU has to be red and black (it won't be seen anyways from the side panel of the case.)
