laptop screen broken wont display on external screen

My windows laptop screen is broken and I use an external screen and never had a problem but this morning it won't work it usually shows up when its at the log in screen but nothing. Maybe its updating but I can't tell I've tried restarting it a thousand times and nothing please help !!!! I don't I know what to v do

there's a key combination to enable / disable the external output, fn+f6 usually try that

edit: can you hear the hdd when windows starts? leds blinking etc?

Thefnf6 didn't work but it makes noise and lights are booking

so then your windows is starting, look at the f keys, which one has a monitor on it? that's the f to use with fn to enable/disable the external monitor...

or share the exact model please and i can search (or http://bit.ly/1l0UwPt )

No Windows start up sounds are being heard and other computers can connect to the monitor. I'm pretty sure that the laptop isn't getting to the log in page.

Look on the bottom of your laptop, there should be some stickers with the model number listed on it, like "HP Envy-1337" (madeup but whatever)
It's also possible they make a Docking Station for your laptop, so you can just plug it into that and then hookup the monitor and keyboard to it and you don't have to open your laptop.

On my little Dell I made it work with FN F1...
