Hey guys.

We all know that Nvidia's 800 series are coming out pretty soon. What I would like to know is how better will, lets say, 870 be than R9 280x?
(we know that 770 performs pretty much the same as 280x, so I'm interested in 870)

The problem is I bought Gigabyte's R9 280x OC few weeks ago for 260€. Now I'm thinking about selling this card, before 800 series is released and price of 280x drops too much.
I'd also like to know what do you think that price of 870 will be, when it gets released?

cheers

speculations are that the 800 series card will not be released before the end of Q4 2014...
probably not even before 2015...If you can get a good price for your card (450$ +/-) i would get
a GTX 780 online for around 500$ and call it a day, otherwise i would keep the 280x...

also, if you are aiming before the price of your card to go down, will you be willing to sell them now and wait a few months (until next gen is released) without a gpu?
if it was me, just stick with what you have, it is a very nice card. otherwise you when you are about the get that 870 (or whatever they will call it), amd might be releasing new ones too

A friend told me that 800 series will be released at the end of March, so I could live for 1-2 weeks without GPU indeed (or install my old 260gtx). But obviously, 800 aren't coming out that soon, so no, I'm not going to sell my GPU to but 800 series. I know that 280x is a great card, but knowing that I could get something much better for the price of 280x few weeks ago, is irritating.

Thank you guys for your answers.

anyway i can tell you one thing, i can tell you that for example the GTX 570 was about the performance of the GTX480, the GTX 670 was about the same as a GTX 580, the GTX 770 is about the same as the GTX 680, so
i think it's safe to say that the GTX 870 will be about the same performance of the GTX 780 take or leave 10%
and the price will be anywhere from 400$ to 469$...so all in all it's better to either get a 780 now or keep your
280x untill you can get a GTX 880 or equivalent because by the time the GTX 870 will be out the performance
diff. going from 280x to 870 will certainly not be worth it...IMOH (it's all speculation but still...you know)

you did the right thing buddy going with a 280x, i usually recommand the GTX 760 for a low budget gamer
(cause only 2gb of vram but at 200-250$ it's still pretty nice) and then going up to a mid-range budget i think
the r9 280x is better than the 770 cause it as more VRAM and about the same performance GPU, and then
for high-range budget i think the GTX 780 3gb. is the best bang for the bucks in that range of cards.
