Hi all,

I'm sure for most of you this is a stupid question but, my wife and I recently got rid of our cable to stream everything from netflix and hulu. We got what I originally thought was a great deal from comcast that gave us 10 local channels, HBO, and Internet up to 25 MBS for $40, however the streaming has been horrible, it takes for ever to load and freezes up every few minutes especially on the upstairs tv in the evening. Sometimes it works great, but my understanding is that the acual MBS changes and 25 MBS is the highest but the average MBS could be much lower. Right now all we have is the modem comcast gave us, would attaching a router allow for faster or better streaming. I am trying to decide if I should cancel before our introductory period is up and I will have to pay money.

Here are a few thoughts to help get a better idea of just what is happening.

How are you getting the internet to the TVs? You say Comcast gave you a modem, are you sure it is just a modem? Since you are distributing the internet to various TV's it is likely a modem/router combination? Comcast, like most others, uses marketing labels for equipment that doesn't fully describe what it does.

Does it have WiFi? If you use WiFi for streaming, then that is likely the culprit. WiFi streaming requires a very strong signal and going through a floor and a wall or two will kill your streaming.

IMO, if you want solid, no problem streaming, then a wired Ethernet connection is the only way to go and worth the investment. Even hiring a pro to run wires will cost less than a few months of your old cable bill and give you the relaxation you want from your TV viewing time. Instead of the frustration you have now.
