Hi, I just re-formated a PC with this Mobo, installed the latest sound drivers from the ASUs website and I get nothing from the line out in the back and nothing from the front pannel sound jack.

I am using windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

When I check the driver information for Sound, video.... it says:

Driver Provider: Advanced Micro Devices
Driver Date: 09-17-2013

But the driver I installed from the asus Website is a REALTEK Driver:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=M5A97+LE+R2.0&p=1&s=24

here is the info:

-----------------------
Version 5.10.0.7022&6.0.1.70

Description Realtek Audio Driver V5.10.0.7022 for Windows XP 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7023 for Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
File Size
293,02 (MBytes) 2013.10.15 update
-----------------------------------------

If I click on the update driver it points to the extracted REALTEK Folder with sub folder called (NICDRV-8169) I browsed through all possible subfolders in that READTEK/AUDIO directory and it always sticks with drivers currently installed...

I am very confused as to why this is not working... any help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

Solution
M5A97 Le 2.0 requires a video card. Most video cards have built-in sound chips for HDMI out. You may need to manage more than one sound device in the Windows 7 Control Panel - Sound section.

Wow, I am an idiot... I just came back to me ... Onboard sound was disabled in the bios as I had disabled it a long time ago because i was using this motheboard for Cryptocurrency mining... I knew it was gonna be something dumb..

But now it still does not work. The Realtek driver now shows up and the sound meter bar moves when something with sound is playing but I plug in speakers and headphones and nothing comes out. Also after plugging and unplugging headphones a few time in either the Line out ( at the back middle) or headphones jack in front pannel it freezes the computer. What I though fixed it brought on a whole new set of problems.

Video card installed is Saphire R7 240 .. so I disabled the AMD sound driver ... that did not do anything ...

There is a REALTEK HD andio manager in the control pannel, its supposed to tell when when audojacks and mics get plugged in ETC... but that does not happen.

when I plugged a Mic in the Back panel it brefly said I had something plugged in to Audio jack of the Front panel LOL ... ( not the MIC jack) then said I unplugged it ... I am going crazy
