Hi. I read a bit here and I think I am experiencing CPU bottleneck. Is there any way to fix that? My rig is brand new with an i7-4770 @ 3.4 GHz and a GTX 760 video card, and I can't play Bioshock Infinite on medium or higher without a noticeable amount of frames lag. On my task manager, I have only 20% CPU usage while the game is running. Is there a fix for this?

you shouldnt be experiencing any kind of bottleneck with that cpu. have you updated to newest graphic drivers from nvidias site? are you running in a dual channel dram setup? (dual channel is 2 stick of ram in slots 1,3 or 2,4)

I guess I haven't done the latest driver updates, and just finished doing that just now. And yes, I have dram setup on 1 and 3.

I just tried running Bioshock and it works much better now. Thank you. However, I don't think I am running 60 fps on high on 1080 - probably more like 40, should that be the case?

do you have the 760 in the 1st pcie slot under the cpu. if you have it in one of the lower pcie slots it is most likely a x4 slot and bottlenecking the card, and do you have bothe power plug connectors in?

Yes, 1st slot and both plugs are in.

if you run it on max quality setting with no tweaking with no AA/AF you should be getting around 70 fps as per benchmarks i have seen. try disabling aa/af and see if you are closer to this fps point

Mhmm, from benchmarks, that's what I'd expect too but it doesn't seem like it. It's much better after getting updated drivers but not completely smooth like 60 fps though even with all that disabled. How do people usually achieve the benchmark value?

do you have any parked cores?

What are parked cores?

it means that your cpu only has 2 cores available and is using hyper threading to compensate for the other 2. this is how you check

You must open resource monitor(Start>accessories>system tools>resource monitor or task manager>performance>resource monitor). Click on the cpu tab and you should see all your cores on the right side. If the core is parked you should see 'parked' ,eg 'Core 1 - Parked', beside you core name. If you don't see any 'parked' means none of your cores are parked.

Yes, it says my CPU 1, 3, 4, and 6 are parked. How do I make it unparked?

no problem glad to help, just out of curiosity are you on windows 7 because 8 and 8.1 is supposed to unpark cores automattically?
