Hello,

I have just finished building a new computer, but it's randomly not responding for around 30 seconds when doing simple browsing or just opening folders. I suspect it's HDD, because when the freeze happens the HDD light is constantly lit, indicating that it's busy. I tried defragmentation, but it did not help.

The HDD is "Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA Internal Hard Drive OEM" and connected to SATA 1 port on ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus motherboard. I choose AHCI for SATA configuration.

My System Specs are:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA Internal Hard Drive OEM

ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus mATX AM3+ DDR3 AMD 760G 1PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 1PCI SATA2 VGA GBLAN Motherboard

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 1033MHZ 2GB 6.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card

AMD FX-6300 Six Core Processor Socket AM3+ 3.5GHZ 14MB 95W Retail Box

EVGA 500 Bronze 500W 80PLUS Bronze Power Supply 3 Years Warranty

Coolermaster N400 ATX Mid Tower Case Black 5X5.25 8X3.5INT 2XUSB3.0

Windows 8.1 x64

Please help, the freezes are unbearable.

Thanks

Thank you for your reply! Diagnostic tool did not show any problems and there are no firmware updates for the drive that I could find. The problem still remains - any ideas?

Hmm, for some reason changing power settings from balanced to high made it work much better. However, the issue is not solved completely as the mouse cursor starts to move abruptly from time to time, however it does not seem to "not respond" anymore. Any suggestions?
