Hey guys, Currently I am using the 280x asus dcu ii top. It is great. Runs everything on max and is very silent till it hits around 40% fan speed and up.
My issue is that I am using a 720p led tv. My screen is bottle necking my performance obviously. So I plan to get a 1440p monitor and run it at around 90hz.
I researched and looked at the performance between the 280x and the 780. I plan on playing with atleast a minimum of 60 fps at very high or ultra with AA settings toned down.
Should I just keep my 280x and play on high/med? Would the visual change be noticeable? I have a week till my rma ends
I dont plan to crossfire because I don't want to deal with issues if it does arise. Also because of the increased heat and power output.

A 780 will definitely run 1440p better than a 280x, if it's worth the time and money for you to make the change lol The nice thing about 1440p is you don't need 8x AA like 720 or 1080 really need, so you can tone that down a little. Whatever you do, I don't think overclocking your screen is really going to do you any good over what 60Hz will give you with either card.

For the GTX780 this would probably be your best option IMO.
I'm currently running one of these and i've oc'd the balls out of it. Taking into consideration the turbo boost plus the OC that this card gives over the standard 780, then doing manual oc'ing on top of it just totally blows other cards out of the water for the price. Plus the custom WINDFORCE fan setup that is offered by Gigabyte in this model and many others is also unreal, and surprisingly not too too loud.

Hope you make the right decision! If you want a card by Radeon for 1440p then the 290x would be it because that's exactly what it was made for.

Enjoy your new card whatever you choose! :)

Thanks guys for the tip!

Heh, you guys both have the gtx 780. I think the evga 780 with acx cooling is the best option for me right now. I don't mind spending an extra $30-40 for the classified but I read in another thread on the same page that I wouldn't be able to achieve maximum efficiency by air.

Also the 290x is kind of out my range, $600-800 =/, and it does get pretty hot.
