I have an ASRock 990FX Fatal1ty Killer motherboard and an FX 8350 CPU, and my computer randomly reboots. I'll be in the middle of web browsing or playing a game, and it just restarts out of nowhere. It's not overheating; it stays around 44C. I checked event viewer and it displays nothing other than that there was an unexpected shutdown. Does anybody have an idea what it could be? Thanks for any help you can give.
Other specs are as follows:
RAM: 8gb (2x4g) Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
SSD: OCZ Agility 3
HDD: 250GB Toshiba
Graphics: Crossfire R9-270X (one msi Hawk and one msi 2G)
Cooler: Corsair H60

I have a corsair AX760 ;D That was one thing I made sure to spend money on.

Edit: Just reseated all connections. A couple on the PSU itself weren't fully connected (just a hair) and the 24pin on the PSU wasn't fully connected (still just a hair). I'll post again if the problem persists.

I'll give this a stab. From what I remember most Corsair Vengeance memory can hit 1600 by using a XMP (eXtreme Memory Profile) but those are for Intel based machines. A very long time ago AMD tried to have their own version they called Black Edition Profiles (supposed to be used with Phenom II Black Edition CPU's). If I recall you normally needed about 1.65 V to hit 1600 Mhz (at least from older sticks of memory, newer ones can normally hit it with 1.5 V). Depending on the exact model number of your RAM sticks you could be running with too little voltage to your RAM causing those random reboots. Forget running Memtest though, it'll normally pass even with low voltage. When you installed your memory did you just set the RAM speeds to 1600 and the save and exit? Check the sticks and see what voltage is required (normally on the sticker) and check the BIOS to see what your putting out to the RAM. I'd bet that's at least part of the issue. Also check your memory timings, if you have to, input the correct values manually. Google the exact part number you have and the specs should come up. Good Luck.

I did in fact do exactly what you said. I don't like messing with the bios if I don't have to. I'm running the 8350 at stock speed, and I bumped up the ram from 1333 to 1600 just within the settings and hit save. It's running at 1.5V. I went into the manual timing settings and I was confused as heck.

Sadly, it wasn't. In the middle of editing an image, it restarted again. :\

If its possible try another pair of memory sticks. I still think that's the source of the issue. You could have just gotten a bad pair (so if they are new, try to return them.) FWIW Corsair are extremely forgiving about RMA's if you need to go that route. Also I guess maybe try to install your memory into the other 2 slots on the MB? Could have a bad slot (highly unlikely though.)

The ram is actually 2 years old. I just ordered g.skill trident.X 1600mhx cas 7 ram. Never had a problem with my ram on my old system though. Dunno, hopefully the new ram fixes the problem. Thanks for your help =]
