Hi, I'm here at the recommendation of a friend after spending days trying to figure out what's going on. I don't know much about routers/networking, so please let me know if there is any information I need to post. Here's how things stand:

My connection recently started experiencing fluctuating internet speeds. The issue is wide-spread, but since I'm currently trying to download the new Bioshock DLC, I'll use it as a reference. The download will go as fast as 3.7Mbs down to a crawling few bytes per second and, at times, a complete halt. However, I never lose my connection to the routers, so my initial thought it that it must be an issue with the router. I asked my cousin, whom is using a laptop, and she says that she hasn't been experiencing any issues. After that, I decided that maybe it was my wireless adapater, but I didn't have any issues when I took my pc over to a friend's house to lan. I attempted to use windows troublshooting and it said that my setting are all correct, but the DNS server is not responding.

I have no idea where to go from here and any information/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cable, from Xfinity. I would have to move my computer to connect directly to the router, but I'm willing to do it if it helps get to the bottom of this.

I just added the google DNS and alternate DNS. That seems to have taken care of the error message from the troubleshooting, so here's to hoping the issue was something so simple. The fluctuations happen frequently, so I'll know soon enough.
