new computer not recognizing gpu

I have just bought a new pc and put it together. I installed all the drivers and the gpu drivers from the cd. The gpu is a geforce gtx 780. I have my vga plugged into it and its giving me video output but in the device manager it shows up as standard vga graphics adapter. Did I do something wrong?

Uninstall the drivers that came with it, run Display Driver Uninstaller, and install the latest drivers from Nvidia's website and see if that works
