Additional hard disk causes neither disk to be recognized in BIOS

HI all -

I have been trying to solve a problem with a NAS system and after a number of attempts with its server recovery disk (which fails while recovering so it's possible the disk is bad I suppose but it seems more likely the NAS OS partition is corrupted from everything I've found) I'm on my last step of adding it to my desktop to try and resolve the problem from there.

I am installing the disk with the connections I'm using for my bluray drive so I know they work (I also checked this identical setup with another 250 GB SATA drive and had success). I install the 1 TB drive and boot up is very slow. After a minute of going through the loading screen it will finally bring me to a "no OS found" screen. Checking BIOS shows nothing is identified on any of my two SATA connections (my OS disk and the 1 TB disk).

I'm running windows 7 and here is some hardware info:
The 1 TB is a Seagate 7200 RPM out of an EX490 mediasmart server
MB: Asus P6T SE
Not sure if there is any other relevant hardware here but please let me know if you want anything else spec'ed out

I have absolutely no idea how to proceed so any advice would be helpful!

Thanks,
J

Is the data on this disk already backed up somewhere?

Download and burn the Seatools for dos image and then test the 1tb (with your drives data cable disconnected) by booting from the the burned disk.
Start with the quick test and then Do the long test.

I inherited this from a relative without any concern for data, mainly just trying to get the NAS up and running again.

I tried the Seatools and found the following:

I swapped my OS hard disk with my bluray drive and found, once again, no drives were recognized.

I swapped the bluray drive with the 1TB Seagate hard drive and got into the Seatools but unfortunately Seatools didn't recognize the drive.

I swapped the SATA port on the motherboard for the hard disk (a few different positions) and each time it wasn't recognized in BIOS.

I went back to the original configuration (Seagate drive on SATA 1, OS on SATA 3) but swapped the cable itself and found the same results.

I guess the disk is just shot unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Thanks for the advice popatim.
