LG Super Multi Drive and Install Disc Issue

Okay, so, I have Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite that is 1 1/2 years old. & my internal optical drive died & does not work. & Windows update doesn't say anything about needed updates. All that it can tell me is that it is damaged. So I got myself an External Super Multi Drive by LG that came along with the Install Disc, however when connecting the Super Multi Drive to the PC via usb, the computer notifies me that it has connected but does not notice that it is an optical drive. How do I install the Super Multi Drive Install Disc when even if I insert it into the Super Multi Drive the PCstill does not notice it? I'm guessing that my damaged internal optical drive needs to be replaced, but I don't want to pay for that. Is there any online downloadable Installing for my Super Multi Drive that I can find? Please let me know asap because I have assignments to take care of!

Windows 8 is not listed as a supported OS for that drive. It may still work, but not guaranteed. You may have an issue with Windows where it can't see optical drives anymore. Try doing a system restore to an earlier date where you drive used to work.
