Greetings All:

I am a newcomer here. Im trying to setup home network with following objectives and equipment:

1) Thomson DWG 875-provided by Time Warner. I must use Ethernet connection for my VPN to my company network.

2) NetGear R6250- Its currently connected to above as AP with Ethernet .

3) Asus RT-N66R- Its set as a wireless repeater to the Netgear and is downstairs providing wireless to laptops, and Ipad.

I would like the ability to get the best wifi throughout 2 story house with ability to assign static ip's to certain devices.. The Thomson does not have this ability. The Netgear will not in AP mode. And which device should assign IP's though DHCP? Right now, it appears that Thomson and Netgear are both doing same.

Thanks In Advance for all assistance.

Solution
I don't know about the thomson but the netgear can assign a ip to a certain mac with the DHCP server. unfortunately I don't think you can set make it set the gateway to another device....ie you can't tell the netgear to tell the PC that the gateway is the thomson. You may be better off running the DHCP on one of your PC's.

You will need to load a third party software. The one I always used to use is now a pay for item so you will have to search for free software that can run on your windows version. You "might" get the asus to give out dhcp when it is in repeater mode and but you would have to see if it will let you configure it I have never tried.
