So I upgraded my CPU a few weeks ago to a FX 8350 8 core 4.0 GHz and i'm not seeing much of a difference in my FPS in any game really. I upgraded from a FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz. My graphics card atm is a Radeon 7870 HIS GHz edition 2gb, and i have 12 gbs of ram. I'm wondering if theres a problem or if this CPU is pointless compared to my old one. Need help! Thanks in advanced.

Solution
You wont see much of an increase, as the gpu is slightly weak. The 8350 is a much better CPU, as the 41xx series has extremely weak cores.

If you upgrade your graphics card you will get much better performance compared to keeping the 4170.

Very few if any games use more than 4 threads, so the real extra power of your CPU isn't going to get utilized by your games. The only advantage in that case is the 10-15% efficiency increase in Vishera cores. if you're getting ~ 40 FPS you might not notice a 4 frame difference, but that's what you'd get. That's assuming the CPU is the bottleneck, which it probably isn't.
