Specs:
CPU: I5 4440
MB: MSI B45-G41
GPU: EVGA SC 760 w/ACX
RAM: 8gb (4*2) Corsair 1600
PSU: OCZ 500w

I have 1 1080p monitor. I am using an HDMI cabel because I don't have a DVI cabel yet. The only problem is 1080p is to large for the screen with the HDMI, so 1680x1060 or something like that is the highest resolution I can get on my screen, which is strange to me because that resolution is 6:10 I think. SO I was switching resolutions and trying to see if there was a way to re size my screen then when I changed to 1080p my monitor stopped getting a signal. SO anyone think they know what is going on?
Thanks!

Solution
When you reset the monitor, did you get the monitor default screen(usually the monitor brand name)? Just to make sure that the monitor still works.
Make sure that your monitor is set to receive an HDMI input. Make sure that your cable connections are secure. Make sure that the HDMI is plugged into the graphics card. Once all of that is verified. Check the monitor for operation. If it isn't working, try the integrated graphics.

Once the monitor is viewable, make sure that the integrated graphics are "disabled" in your BIOS. And the try the graphics card HDMI output again.

Thanks for the response. I had been using the HDMI on the card, and my monitor worked fine so it shouldn't be the cable. When I press any of the monitors buttons it doesn't display the menu, like it normally does. When I plug it into the motherboard nothing is displayed like with the GPU. Also, if I power off the PC and turn it back on it shows the MSI MB screen and the beginning of the windows 8 symbol before saying no signal and going black.

Try resetting the monitor (turn it off & unplug it for 30 seconds). It sounds like the monitor is malfunctioning. It is reporting "no signal" on the screen that is functioning. Either that or the signal stops during the boot. Did you check the graphics source in your BIOS?

How would I do that? Do I need a monitor to do that?

Yeah, nothing comes up when I plug into it so do I need to change something for the integrated graphics? I'm gonna pick up a new cable a little later and see if that was it.

Since I cant see my screen, how would I start up to enable safe mode using Windows 8.1? Thanks, do I press power then down with the arrow key or do I need to start up a different way?

Mash Shift+F8 during startup, should bring up the recovery options window (which has the low resolution / safe mode options)

Or use a windows 8/8.1 recovery cd/dvd/usb stick if you have it

Yes, it then displayed the MSI Mother board logo and started to show WIndows 8.1 (The symbol and a dot circle rotating, then it will say no signal.
