I built my computer a month ago and i have a 600 watt PSU and it is creating a really high pitch noise. What could it be and should i attempt to try and fix it or let my friend who is really good with computers do it?

Solution
coil whine is caused by a vibrating wire

The coil/choke is a coil of wire wrapped around a ferrite core which is magnetic in type. When it is loose it will vibrate at the harmonic value of the PSU's switching frequency.

It is annoying as hell but not indicative of a failing component.

Since it's under warranty and one would rather live without the noise, you should return it.

[strike]Sounds like a failing power supply. If it's the fan \ bearing ,which usually causes grinding it will only get worse. [/strike]You may want to look at replacing it.
*Update* This will not do anything to other components. *Update*
