Ok , so I have a pretty nice 1080p HD monitor, it has speakers that are surprisingly good for monitor speakers, and tomorrow my new gaming PC will be coming in! It's my first, so I'm not entirely sure what I should expect sound wise. I did NOT opt for a sound card and I just stuck with an onboard sound... Thingie. I don't know f you technically consider that a sound card. Anyway. I have obviously have knowledge about HDMI's, because I own consoles and such, but I don't know if my card will relay the sound. This could be bad, because I don't want to buy speakers, and I don't want to always wear headphones, AND I record with an HD PVR 2.

So will it work without a dedicated sound card? I have an Nvidia GTX 660 2GB. And on a side note, do I have to have a dedicated sound card for a USB mic to work? Such as a Blue Snowball, which if I remember right, has all it's own drivers.

no, as long as your mobo is capable of sound, it'll be output through the HDMI connector, up to 7.1 surround. I originally used the optical output of the mobo, but this is not dolby encoded for games, only movies, hence no output for games. I then realised I should just use HDMI audio.
