I'm getting this Notification saying my Windows isn't genuine. It's been running pretty slow and such, so I'm assuming it's a virus. My friend let me borrow his Windows 7 OEM disk for a clean install, but it's already been used. Will this work, and will it otherwise have any negative effect on my copy of Windows 7.

Solution
You can use the OEM disk to fix Windows, but not his key. Do you actually have a genuine key on your system? Is it an OEM setup? If not, you can't use his OEM disk as the key won't match.

If you "think" you have a virus, does not mean you don't have anti-virus software installed? Did you scan the system with a few products already?

***** UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE YOUR FRIEND'S OEM DISC *****

If you do then you are committing software piracy and no further help can be given to you regarding this matter.

Now, let's try and find a solution to your problem.

Firstly, how did the OS come to being installed on your machine? Was it already on there or did you purchase it separately?

Well, I first bought this computer from a friend, I've had it for around 4 months. He told me there's a key on the back of the computer. And about the virus, I have Anti-Malware Bytes enabled along with Microsoft security essentials, and I have scanned it several times.

If you got this from a friend, I suggest you wipe it and install a clean Windows setup on it. You can use the code on the back to activate windows. Back up your files and Favorites, wipe the drive during setup (delete and create a new partition), install Windows, load drivers for the motherboard, video, network, audio, etc...

It's slow probably because of all the stuff left on there from before.
