Im upgrading from a Asus M5A97 R2.0 to the Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2.0. now when i install the motherboard am i going to lose everything i have on my drive or is everything going to be fine and just put in the activation code for windows ? Windows 8 by the way

Solution
Windows will configure your system for the new hardware change, and then deactivate Windows. But, don't worry! You can activate by phone using Windows automated hotline, and it will reactivate easily. If you have issues further with activation you can talk to a Microsoft representative on the phone.

I've swapped Windows 8 between different hardware without a problem it's very painless, and have had no issues; I am not guaranteeing it will work 100%, but it should. You may want to backup data in case.
before you upgrade backup the data on your harddrive as you will have to do a clean install of windows on the new system.you cant just swap the hdd to the new board and have everything work.also note that it makes a difference whether you have a retail or oem version of windows as oem is tied to the original hardware and may not activate with the new board.i have, however, activated over the phone in this case.
