Hey guys just wondering if I'm slowing down my PC.
I have 4x8gb ram sticks but I'm wondering would it be better to have 2x8gb. I do remember back int he day dual channel was faster but is this still the case on newer mobos ?

Intel Core i5 4670K 3.40GHz
Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87
Crucial 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Ballistix Tactical

More about : dual quad channel ram

I don't think it is going to make a big difference either way.

Hi Jagzc
More ram will allow you to do more however if you want more speed get faster ram speed
example , instead of 1600mhz ram your motherboard will take up to 3000mhz ram but you could go 2133 or 2400 easily by enabling xmp in bios, lower latency is best , example 2400mhz ram at cas 9 will be faster than 1600mhz ram at cas9 , the lower the latency the faster your ram will be
but you must select wisely example ,

yes im going to try the XMP. i have already got the ram and its installed on the pc. I just build a friends pc and the windows score on his 7.8 and mine is 7.6 i was just wondering if that was because of the dual channels as the speed of the ram is the same . but im using the t he 4 channels.

im just being picky really

is the score better with more ram or less ?

using xmp with four sticks will change command rate to 2T.
1T for 2 sticks.
The rest of timings i'm not sure.
I can't see it making a difference to your everyday use (whatever that is), apart from benchmarks.

then the amount of ram is not really a significant factor , faster ram or better gpu or better cpu will improve your score , but you are spending more money for the sake of beating your friends score , if it works for what your needs are then leave it, or else try a better gpu or sli if you are gaming, or faster ram or better cpu , you have many options , but if you dont need it then don't worry.
At the end of the day you have a good motherboard , plenty of good ram and a reasonable cpu so you wiil be fine

I was more curious just to see if maybe there was something of a physical nature I mean I really don't want to spend anymore money I have the PC and I'm extremely happy with what I've got I was just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

There is a minor negative time factor at the boot for the fully populated RAM. But other than that, it isn't going to affect the overall speed of the system. At least that has been my experience. I have 4x 4GB of RAM in my system.
