Hi. I am seeing a very reasonable offer to purchase a digital download of Windows 7 Ultimate from an online vendor. It states I will receive an authentic COA. Also, upon contacting them, I was told I can burn the downloaded media to a DVD.

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with this? Thank for any helpful replies.

DO NOT even try.

Buy it of Microsoft directly if you want digital. That way there is no risk involved.

Hi. Thanks. Yeah of course buying from Microsoft is the safest route -- unfortunately not the least expensive. And yes it does sound awfully lucrative. But, I have had 100% positive transactions buying used programs and OS software from eBay. There are actually a lot of dealers selling these digital downloads, could they all be a scam? Thanks.

If 50% were scams(note thats just hypothetical, its probably way more). Would you risk it?

Hey, please excuse this post. I should have noticed earlier, the link here in Tom's http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/ by USAFRet. Would these downloads provide the media for Windows 7 Ultimate? Then I could buy a product key, which I know of some trusted sellers in which to buy one.

Lets just stop for a moment.

1. Windows Ultimate is POINTLESS. Home Premium or at most Professional is MORE than sufficient for anyone mans need.

2. You can get your Windows ISO from a friend or even download a "trial" from MS themselves. Then you just need to buy a key.

Hi. Thanks for all the replies and advice, everyone. And also for the quick responses. I wanted Windows 7 Ultimate so I could help my father work on some old XP applications. And take advantage of adding more than 16GB or RAM to my motherboard in the future. I guess what OS a person wants is going to depend on what he/she needs it for.

Anyway, in my original post, I was just inquiring people who may have actually purchased digital downloads from the plethora of sellers other than Microsoft. And have they had good or bad experiences. Feedback on this is not an easy topic to find in searching the Net, so I thought I'd just check the more specialized community here.

I would not expect anyone to advocate or put in disrepute any particular company on this forum, but perhaps provide a link to where reviews of sellers of this type can be seen. If anyone knows where, I would appreciate it being shared.

Thanks all.
