My friend recently purchased a Roccat Kulo 7.1 headset, and when she attempted to plug it into her computer, she found that whilst it played audio admirably, it would not record any sound, she even attempted to use the headset without the sound card, and plug the headset directly into the computer via the jacks, but the same issue persisted. I took it upon me to test it on my computer, and I found the same issue. I attempted to plug her headset into my Steelseries Siberia V2 sound card, but nothing was being recorded, yet when I plugged my Steelseries headset into the Roccat sound card, it worked without issue. However, when she plugged it into her laptop and a third computer, everything worked perfectly.

My computer's specs are as follows -
NVidia GTX 580
AMD FX8350
12GB 1333MHz RAM
750W PSU
Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard
Windows 7 64

Her computer's specs are as follows -
NVidia GTX 660
AMD FX8320
8GB 1600MHz RAM
700W PSU
Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard
Windows 7 64

Judging that the motherboards are the same, I concluded that the motherboard might be the issue here, but I don't see why the headset would be incompatible with a motherboard.

Any advice?

Try setting the headphones to your default audio/recording device from right clicking on the speaker icon on the bottom right -> Playback/Recording devices.

In the future, buy quality headphones and a quality mic seperately.
That will be an overall better experience.

Good luck!
