I'm working on a computer and I cant figure out how to get my PCIe graphics card to work. I am probably missing something but I did get the motherboard for 10 dollars at a local thrift shop and everything else works.

When I purchased the board I gave it a good look and it looked like it was never used.

Athlon II X2 235e
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
4GB of pny DDR3 ram pulled from a working computer. I am unsure of the speed but I know it is compatible with my board.
A brand new Ultra LS series 600 watt power supply

I have tried 2 graphics card and I cant get either to display video. one is an old XFX 8600 GT with 1GB of ddr2 ram and the other is a XFX Radeon HD 4650 with 1GB ddr2. Both graphics cards are working.

There are a couple bios options on the motherboard related to graphics. IGX configuration has a few things with the important setting being the off switch for the onboard graphics.

Then there is the Init display first category which has three options PEG (which I think stands for Pci Express Graphics), PCI, and OnchipVGA.

I have tried several combinations in the bios but have not had any luck.

I believe the bios on my motherboard is 1.3 or 1.4.

The board revision is 4.1

I'm trying to get it up and running to use for gaming. Anywhere from quake III - CoD: Ghosts.

I really want it to work because I can overclock with this little gem.

Then i think your computer is constantly restarting when you connect the graphic card. The power might not be reaching to Pci-e slot as it should and it is disturbing the flow of current in motherboard causing constant restart. That happened to me too I don't know but although it was a different reason.

Yes it does. I think its a RAdeon 3000 or something. that works just fine but sadly the only integrated graphics capable of playing a game well is in something like an APU.

Ill go try that and report back.

Edit: Alrighty. I actually dont know if that worked because I changed it and turned it off to slip my graphics card in and turned it back on only to get no video out of the PCIe card or the onboard.

It seems that when there is a card inserted into the PCIe slot, it wont let the onboard put out video. I left it enabled in the bios but set the Init display to PEG and nothing happened.

Okay. Everything else seems to work just fine, including overclocking. Could there be a short or something in the PCIe slot? If so, how would I be able to fix it, if at all?

Nah I got it from my local Goodwill store. figured it couldn't to drop 10 bucks on something that is normal 60 dollars :)

if there is something wrong with it would it beep if I plugged a speaker in to the motherboard headers?

It appears you have hit all the necessary BIOS settings but it's possible a setting might be hiding from you.

Have you hit Ctrl-F1 at the main screen to expand your menu options? Look and see if there are other video-related options.

But, as noted, it might be a dud.

Okay that revealed some extra goodies but nothing helpful for forcing PCIe. perhaps it is a dud.

One thing I noticed is that when I turn it on with a graphics card in the PCIe slot, the cpu fan revs back up frequently as if its doing a soft reset.

I'm going to try a couple things to see if I can get it working but I am prepared to find another. I love this lite board but I really need that slot for a graphics card. Ill post again after I try a few things.

Edit: Thanks for the input! looks like the slot is blown but I am gonna grab the rev 5.1 board from newegg for about 62 dollars.
