I have got a really bad school laptop that crashes and freezes time and time again! Also, i am planning on moving away from the Xbox and onto the PC, I have asked my dad once and he said no without giving me an explanation. I am buying with my own money and planning to build it myself. So I am thinking of confronting him and asking him why and try to convince him. Any good ways I confront him and any good arguments, the main opposing question is why do need a powerful computer other than for gaming? . BTW i am 13.

Solution
You don't phrase it as a 'powerful gaming machine' you phrase it as good, solid, quality parts that will last much longer than anything pre-built can provide. Quality parts will provide stability and less stress, and reliability for school work is important. Higher quality parts will also run the programs quicker and more efficiently.

Yeah that's a good point, but he the problem is that he won't even let me get one pre-built.

He thinks my really bad laptop is adequate, but I really want to game and stuff. I mean is there anything else a powerful computer can do that a bad one can't?

I usually want to use it for gaming and entertainment value but there are sometimes demanding pieces of work, like 3-D rendering and animation.

If you're doing 3D rendering and animation, you will definitely see massive improvement with a stronger CPU and GPU. Most 3D modeling and animating software supports GPU acceleration, which improves performance greatly for those tasks. A laptops severely restricted CPU and GPU capabilities are not at all ideal for that kind of work.

@theguywhoisnotgoodatthisstuff,
Can your parrents afford $600 or $1000 computer? Are you mature enough to be given $1000 property?
If so - show them some commitment, like doing your chores, improving your grades, helping them for things you're not asked. And you said you earn your own money - come with a plan how you will spend them (e.g. buy some parts for your PC, or keep them for later upgrade...)
