Hi,

I'm new to overclocking so any help is appreciated. I just set up my new computer and I'm looking to overclocking it. I do 3D-modeling and a bit of gaming so some extra ghz would help out.

I have looked at a ton of guides and tried overclocking myself. I could only reach a stable 4.0ghz at 1.9v, anything higher resulted in bsod when running Aida64. I tried 4.2-4.4 at 1.25v with slight mods in vring and uncore with no luck. I know that it's luck of the draw with CPUs in terms of overclocking, but the lower end cards should be able to do 4.2 if not 4.4ghz right?

Solution
People say that it will have some difference. But I disagree
My 4770k was stable at 4.5 running 2400mhz ram
And after dropping it down to 1600 I still couldn't do 4.6

I guess it might make a little difference if people are trying to go for the extra 10mhz by changing the base clock, but I think that otherwise it doesn't make a big difference.

Try to get to 4.1 and let me know what your temps are. If they are low enough you could try using more voltage to go further (1.3 is still within intels spec limits)

I went up by 2 increments so I didn't try 4.1, I will try that now.

Also I was wondering if I should try reducing my ram timings. I read that lower frequency memory runs better with tight timings, but some higher frequency memory runs better at stock. Something about doing better in larger/longer number crunching instances. Like I said I do 3D modelling and rendering might benefit from that.

Aida64 has been running for 15 minutes now (still going) Running 4.1 Ghz @ 1.2v - Core temps: 1-72C /2-70C /3-66C /4-64C.

Update*
Ran it for total of 60 minutes with no change in temperatures. I went up to 4.2ghz @1.25v and got a hardware failure error on Aida64 19 minutes in. Temps from core 1-4 ranged from 80C-68C.
