hi

i have a samsung laptop with a i3 2350M cpu. samsung tells me it can only hold 8gb ddr3 1333mhz max. yet when i look on intel's site it says the cpu can see 16gb 1333mhz. i went to cruical's site for memory and it recommends 12800 (1600mhz).

my question is this. why does samsung say max 8gb, intel says 16gb both say 1333mhz, but cruical says 1600mhz 8gb max. bit confused :??:as i see some people upgrading the laptops to 16gb. any help would be great. i hope i can handle 16gb in mine. :)thanks in advance

The cpu may be able to handle 16GB but the motherboard might limit it to 8GB. The clock speed is also determined by the motherboard. usually, putting 1600mhz sticks in a 1333Mhz board will just run those dimms at 1300mhz.

Sounds like your system can handle 8GB @ 1333mhz ...so 8GB of 1600mhz ram will work, only at 1333mhz. (I would just go with whatever you can find a good deal on.)

^ this is true...I wouldn't worry about 1600mhz vs 1333mhz. You wont notice a difference.

thanks about the info on the MHz there. i noticed awhile back someone on ebay was selling a samsung i5 laptop that had 16gb in it, but when i google the cpu and went to samsung about it. they said "this can only handle 8gb max". yet they guy had 16gb. do you not think samsung is just trying to get people to buy more computers and laptops from them? I currently have windows 7 64bit which i would of thought could of seen this too. 16gb that is :)
