I have the option of buying one of these monitors, they aren't much different in cost.
What I care about is even backlighting and crispness. I just want things to look right, i'm not a graphic designer. I will always look at it straight on. Will the picture just look plain better on the ips? Will they look similar but the ips will have a lot better color? Will the ips have more even backlighting from straight on?
Thanks.

The vs229hp is better all around. Yes it is more evenly lit and less light bleed. Cheap ips aren't a lot better color but they are noticeably better. 5ms is response time (changing color from gray to white to gray in this case) and really does not relate to delay, it relates to ghosting. Would you have ghosting with 5ms? No.

Definitely go with the IPS. I recently got an ASUS IPS and it looks fantastic.

Unless you are planning on playing high paced FPS games, such as counterstrike, TF2, etc, then I would go with a monitor with 2ms response time. There is a noticeable delay when using a 5ms monitor for FPS games.

they are both pretty evenly backlit? I have two cheap 1080p monitors and basically there's this bright blob of light on the right and the screen gets dimmer towards the left, its annoying like on white background webpages.
