New router causes modem to drop connection

Upon searching and Googling, I couldn't find any answers to my specific problem. I recently bought a Belkin AC1200 AC router to replace my old Netgear WGR614v7 G router. Ever since, the modem has been dropping internet connectivity randomly once or twice a day. All the modem lights signify normal operation (it's an Arris modem from Suddenlink), so the only way to tell is the single light on the router turning orange instead of the normal blue. The problem goes away when I reset the modem (not the router), either by unplugging it or pushing the reset button. I have no idea why the new router is causing it to do that. Also, the new router is using WPA2 secured connection while the old one used WEP. I would test if that's the problem, but this router doesn't even support WEP, not that I'd wanna go back to WEP anyway. Thanks everyone!

The wireless security would only effect the connection between you and the router itself. The issue you are having seems to stem from the router and the modem. Either the new router is talking to the modem in a way that is causing it to lockup, it is sending enough packet information to cause it to lockup, or maybe the modem is getting old.... Unless old age is setting in or your modem has been going out during a Blizzard (WoW, SC2, Diablo 3) update or Torrent download. Then it is likely the way it talks to the modem.

I suggest seeing if the AC1200 has a firmware update.

Yes, that seems to be the problem. Whenever I have this problem the router page tells me that it's having trouble talking to my modem, or something like that. The modem is actually brand new, just exchanged it for a new one from Suddenlink today to see if that would solve the problem. Needless to say, it didn't. There's no new firmware update for the router. How would I solve this problem of the router talking to the modem wrong? Also, I noticed that the downstream light is now amber on the modem whereas it was green with the old router. I searched and the light turns amber when it has lost channel bonding. I'm not entirely sure what that means or how to fix that...

Unless there are setting you can change on the router (Can't think of any that would effect that part though at least on ones I have used and the Belkin's I've had the opportunity to work with didn't have many settings) or possibly the modem itself to make things better. I'm not sure what you could do besides either trying to use dd-wrt firmware on the router (which would likely null the warranty) if it is compatible or replacing the router again...
