Hello everybody,
this one has me pulling my hair out. i have a custom built pc. Its been working really nice since i got it in august. Last week i was just surfing the internet and all of a sudden the screen freezes and a bbbrrrrrrrr noise comes out of the headphones. I only panic a little and i thought it was just a little glitch. So i had to hold the power down and manually restart it. Then the next day the same thing happened but it happened when the computer was idle. So i use the system restore and restore it to a point where i knew it was working fine. After i did the restore the computer did not make the bbbbrrrrrr noise in the headphones it just restarted. No blue screen or anything. Also one time whenever i tried to go to "my computer" or my music windows explorer crashed. so my next step was to reseat the graphics cards. I do that and it delayed the amount of time between crashes and it stopped the computer from restarting. Now it is just locking up at this point. so i tried reseating the RAM and doing a memory test and it came out clear. yesterday my second monitor was flickering every 30 seconds or so. also when i plug the monitor into my top graphics card the screen is blue and has a lot of lines all over it. (it looks bad) After reading that for some people it was the wireless adapter that caused the problem i removed that. didnt fix anything. also one time the computer didnt crash the usb ports completely stopped working. i really do not know what to do at this point. i tried running a stress test and my computer crashed. i have had this thing for 7 months now and i havent had a problem with it crashing. its a pretty stable system (or should i say was a pretty stable system) i have run stress tests on it before (when i got it) and they all passed really good. hopefully i didnt confuse anyone. if there are any questions i will gladly answer them. i will post my specs below and thank you so much in advance for your help. hopefully we can solve this problem.

Intel core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
32 GB of ram
2x AMD Radeon 7870
1200 watt power supply coolermaster
I have a liquid cooler on the processor.
if you need anymore specs just ask!
again thank you so much
Mike

There are many things you can do to isolate the problem. Here's a few:

1: Remove the graphics cards and all of their associated software. Use the integrated output and run the system. If this solves the problem you have one or more bad cards. Install one card and the most up to date drivers. If it mucks up on you try the other. This will eliminate them as the problem.

If that is inconclusive:

2: Download something like CPUID Hardware Monitor and check everything out. Check the temperatures with no video cards, with one, with both. A cooling system failure will completely punk a machine.

You've tested the memory with software, but that means squat:

3: Remove both memory sticks, reseat only one, and run the machine. Do it again with the other. If running with one of them crashes it or screws it some way, you have your bad component.

Try those things and get back to us.

I wish you luck.
