USB Static Electricity Issue

I own a Blue Spark Digital microphone that requires you to unplug it and plug it back in to power the microphone every time I start my computer. I can keep it in after that but must restart the process if I reboot or shutdown.

I noticed when I did so, I would get the Windows 8 sound that devices have been disconnected. Then I get the sound again. After getting a USB hub which made it easier to plug and unplug, I noticed every time I go to plug it in, it makes a static electricity shock at the USB port. As a result, all my USB devices disconnect and then reconnect.

Could this be a faulty wire or is there an issue within my system? I am nervous this is going to ruin my expensive hardware.

Any help is must appreciated.

I Also have a similar occurrence that when connecting Segate 3TB & 2Tb USB 3 drives, often get a small blue spark as the USB Plug metal touches USB Metal port
Unit is brand new too. It does not disconnect as you experience though

Could be static build - but never taken it further to test if its from PC or External Device

Does any one else get this type of issue?

I almost had a heart attack this morning. I turned on my PC and it wouldn't go passed my MB splash screen.

As a result I hit the reset button on the MB and unattached the USB hub completely from the PC and it turned. I doubt it's the hub since I had a similar issue when I reattached the mic before getting the hub.

Luckily I have another wire for that mic. I'm going to try that to see if I can narrow down the issue. If it's a faulty wire, it might shed some light on your issue as well.

I'd still like to get feedback from more experienced people here. Is this static dangerous and/or can it ruin my other hardware? My mic is crucial and I use it a lot.

Today - After visiting a friend from LAN gaming - Decided to plug in the USB before Attaching the PWR Cable to the PC
No Sparks or crackles of electricity

Maybe its just that the Things plugged into the PC are so power hungry they are sucking power before they are fully plugged in?

You get the same thing happening to kitchen electrics etc... May be its a poor house grounding issue?

No I don't think that's it. I actually think it was a faulty/poorly made wire. I had a spare wire for that microphone and tried it. When I connect it does not spark or cause any USB devices to turn off then on.

I will report here with any further issues.
