Are these good GPUs for Star Citizen?

Solution
Star Citizen is going to scale very nicely. Even a fairly low-end card like an HD7770 would be very playable provided you tweak the quality to achieve a smooth frame rate.

My issue with the R9-280X is that it is $400 and on average slightly below the Asus GTX770 which costs $340.

The OC'd Gigabyte R9-280X is about 2% faster than a stock GTX770, but about 2% slower than the Asus so you can roughly call them EQUAL though I think the Asus would win by a minimum of 5% when overclocking.

The R9-280X does have 3GB of VRAM which may or may not be of use in the next two years versus 2GB.

Star Citizen does support MANTLE though it's very difficult to say what the performance...

Star Citizen does support MANTLE though it's very difficult to say what the performance difference would be based on BF4 and whether SC incorporates DX12 at all as it's a more efficient API than DX11.

So I guess you can't go wrong with the Sapphire Tri-X overall though I'd also factor in NVidia PhysX, G-Sync (requires new monitor) and Shadowplay (game recording) if those are a factor to you.

If you don't know about G-Sync it's very, very awesome and the ONLY method which can produce the smoothest gaming experience (even if already gaming at 60FPS with VSYNC and never dipping).
